“In early 2007 I was looking for three people to film shouting dialogue whilst strapped to trees in the New Forest. Robin Klassnik of Matt’s Gallery suggested the 59 year-old Bob Parks, recalling some unusual performances Bob had realised when they were both art students in Leicester in the late 1960s. Bob was up for it, and he cheerfully delivered the dialogue, attached to the tree by an uncomfortable nylon jock-strap. During filming he happened to mention that he had studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles in the 1970s and invited me to his Mum’s nearby bungalow to see his work. I was totally gob-smacked by what I saw there: the bungalow was (and still is) a living artwork, crackling with energy. The walls were completely covered, and the garage jammed full of fantastic painting, sculpture, performance documentation, video, photography and writing, spanning five decades of production. In the middle of it all was Bob’s mum, Marjorie Parks, in her 80s, sat addressing envelopes. When Bob sent me a CD-R of this album in spring 2008, I had no clue what to expect, not realising then how fundamental music was to Bob’s work. I put it on and found it brilliant.” Nathaniel Mellors, 2008
